Enduring Assets: The Financial Lives of Young People Transitioning from Foster Care

This session brings to life the financial challenges and successes of young people aging out of foster care and transitioning to adulthood. Two participants in the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative’s Opportunity PassportTM matched savings and financial education program will speak with researcher Clark Peters about their experiences saving and spending money and purchasing assets that have improved their access to education, employment, housing, and health. This presentation serves as the formal release of Enduring Assets: Young People Talk about Saving, Spending, and Support in the Transition from Foster Care, a qualitative study of Opportunity PassportTM participants authored by Margaret Sherraden, PhD; Clark Peters, PhD, JD; and Ann Marie Kuchinski, MA.
