Conversation with Savers Plenary
September 21, 2012 8:00 am - 9:30 am
The opportunity to hear directly from savers whose lives have been deeply impacted by their participation in matched savings account programs is always one of the more anticipated and moving events of the Conference. The plenary will be opened by Anne Mosle, Executive Director, Aspen Institute Ascend Family Economic Security Program, who’ll present a two-generation perspective on poverty. Anne will then introduce Sterling Speirn, President and CEO, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Conference’s Child and Family Savings Sponsor, to discuss the groundbreaking work the Kellogg Foundation has been supporting connecting child development and asset building. Sterling will introduce Martha Kanter, Under Secretary, U.S. Department of Education, who will both describe new Department of Education initiatives supporting savings for education, and facilitate a conversation with savers. Bob Friedman will close the plenary with a Call to Action for Children’s Savings Accounts.
