Protecting and Rebuilding Communities After Foreclosure: State and Local Strategies

September 21, 2012 9:30 am - 10:45 am

Room: Virginia C

Home equity has long been the primary source of wealth for millions of American households, particularly households of color. But the foreclosure crisis has undermined their financial security – affecting families, communities, and the nation’s economic recovery. This session will feature an interview with key national experts who’ve been working with local, state and national leaders to prevent or mitigate the impact of foreclosures in communities across the country. The conversation will highlight innovative strategies and public policies that are improving outcomes at the local and state levels; explore the implementation of the state attorneys general settlement; and examine emerging public, private and nonprofit sector strategies to address the ongoing crisis.

Speakers:

  • Janis Bowdler, National Council of La Raza
  • Paul Leonard, Center for Responsible Lending
  • Tim Lilienthal, PICO National Network
  • Heather McCulloch, Asset Building Strategies (Moderator)
