2012 Assets Learning Conference

Closing Plenary: Call to Action

September 21, 2012 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Financial insecurity in this country is rising. Yet, to date, there has been no coordinated, effective constituency to advocate for policies to help families achieve economic stability. Nor has there been an effective way to collaborate nationally to learn and test better ways of expanding economic opportunity. With your participation, the Assets & Opportunity Network – which will publicly launch at this plenary – has the opportunity to change all that. The Network is a movement-oriented group of advocates, service providers, researchers, financial institutions and policymakers who implement strategies and advocate for policies that help people become more financially secure. Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson will keynote this session, laying out what’s at stake and why we must act. Then, Assets & Opportunity Network Steering Committee Members, CFED staff and Robin Katcher from the Management Assistance Group will introduce the Network – the need, and its value and potential power – and facilitate discussion on ways the Network can leverage the asset field’s collective experience to improve both service deliver and public policies.

Speakers:

  • Robin Katcher, Managing Director, Management Assistance Group
  • Eugene Robinson, Washington Post columnist
  • Assets & Opportunity Network Steering Committee
  • CFED Staff
