Designing Attractive Accounts for Lower-Income Consumers

Recent research has drawn attention to the large number of unbanked and underbanked households in the United States. The papers in this session explore how a variety of promising tools – including safe, low-cost accounts, mobile banking services and targeted financial education – can be employed to better integrate low-income consumers into the formal banking sector. The ensuing discussion will delve into next steps for moving this work forward including the potential for integrating low-cost accounts into pre-existing social programs.
