Babies & Animals - Pediatricians meet vets

Dear colleagues,

we are happy to invite you to the first International Conference “Babies and Animals: pediatrician meet vets" that will be held in Turin on April 21- 22, 2017.

We believe that a multidisciplinary approach is an important strategy to increase and enhance collaboration and communication about all aspects of health care for children and animals. For these reasons we propose a conference where the aim is to achieve a synergism and exchange of scientific knowledge between pediatricians and veterinarians in order to improve medical education for the childhood.

Animals play a crucial role in the infancy since they are often part of a family; moreover farm animals play a significant contribution to baby health. For these reasons it is important to focus on a "one health"-type approach especially when dealing with zoonotic diseases, antibiotic resistance and animal welfare.

The objective of this conference is to combine synergies that could disclose unanswered questions and knowledge into food safety area, and to present the most recent scientific data about the importance to have a pet in a family.

Besides the emotional imprinting related to early childhood memories regarding interaction with pets, the contact with animals since early infancy may contribute to the emotional and psychological development and to the physical health. However, it is important to integrate all the information about the prevention, health and safety concepts to ensure the baby wellbeing.

Qualified Italian and International speakers from different areas of pediatrics and veterinary medicine will answer to the most frequent questions in the light of the updated scientific data and their personal expertise. This will ultimately be beneficial for both animals and young children because the family is a place where they are learning how to live together.

Last but not least, Torino is one the Italy’s largest city and has an illustrious past, resulting in elegant squares, world-class museums and historic cafés, flanked by some 18km of colonnaded walkways. Turin is affordable, green, easy to get around as a place to experience Italian culture.

On behalf of the organizing committee we welcome you,
