DOCTORAL DISSERTATION AWARD RULES AND GUIDELINES
The 2018 Doctoral Dissertation Award (DDA) is open to all who will have completed their doctoral work in a field related to functions within the supply chain between January 1, 2017 and May 1, 2018. If you have already accepted a position at a college or university, you may still apply.
To be considered eligible, candidates MUST be a member of CSCMP and follow the criteria and formatting guidelines and send a completed application form to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP).
A selection committee comprised of both academics and practitioners using a blind review process will evaluate dissertation abstracts. The author's name must remain unknown and therefore the abstract should not make any reference to either the author or his/her academic institution.
One winner and up to 2 honorable mention awards will be presented. The winner will receive a check for $2,500.00 US and each honorable mention recipient will receive a check for $1,000 US at the CSCMP's 2018 Academic Research Symposium in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. A complimentary conference registration will be extended to the award recipients (must present in the Academic Research Symposium track to win).
Abstract Focus/Criteria: All abstracts will be evaluated by and must clearly focus on the following key points:
1. Is the topic important to the science and practice of functions within the supply chain?2. Was the research appropriately executed - using both proper research design and analysis tools?
3. Does the end product of the research make a significant contribution to the science and practice of functions within the supply chain?
Formatting: All abstracts must be received in the following format and include in the following order
(Note: candidate's name and school name should not appear on or in the abstract):
1. A title page followed by the body of the paper (abstract)
2. A twenty (20) page, double-spaced abstract with one (1) inch margins and twelve (12) point font. Content for the twenty-page abstract must focus on the evaluation criteria and should include:
- An introduction stating the purpose of the research and its relevance to supply chain management
- An explanation of the research including methodology and tools supporting its purpose/relevance
- A conclusion explaining the significant contribution of the research to supply chain management

Submission: All abstracts submitted to CSCMP must be received no later than May 15, 2018 and include the following:
- A completed application form
- One (1) PDF copy of the 20-page abstract (with additional support pages – see above)
- One (1) PDF copy of the complete dissertation
If selected, the applicant must:
- Attend CSCMP’s 2018 Annual Conference to present the research and be recognized during the Academic Research Symposium.
- Reposition the research in a short (2500–3000 words) article targeted for a practitioner audience, possible to publish in SC Quarterly Magazine.
- CSCMP may request an option to publish the study at CSCMP’s expense.
- CSCMP may request to grant permission to include the study on the research web site page.
