Building Resilient Responders

Occupational stress specific to first responders, and the effect on their health, has long been studied. That same attention has not always been given to dispatchers, crime scene investigators, and forensic laboratory personnel. They are often exposed to more traumatic content than those immediately responding. Additionally, they face a different host of stressors that must be addressed and often is not. This presentation will dive into the nuances and unique experiences that practitioners in these fields may encounter.

Jennifer Dillon spent 17 years processing crime scenes and conducting casework with the Forensic Science Division of the Michigan State Police. During that span of time, she honed her skills to become an expert CSI, yet neglected the basic skills needed to build resiliency.  When you love what you're doing, there is no problem, right? Until there was. Jennifer will share her journey and explore the challenges and lessons learned. Proper foundations of self-care and boundary-setting, coupled with establishing a holistic wellness practice and developing a proper mindset will be discussed.
