The NASA Educator Professional Development Collaborative at Texas State University in partnership with NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) is providing a 1-hour webinar.

Join us to explore the X-57, NASA's all-electric x-plane.  Learn about the aircraft and the systems needed for electric propulsion, NASA's design and testing processes, and the science behind the X-57.  Propulsion and Thrust will bring science to life in your classroom.  Learn about current research going on at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center with the X-57 program.

NASA’s X-57 Maxwell is an all-electric experimental aircraft with a goal to demonstrate that an all-electric airplane can be more efficient, quieter, and more environmentally friendly than airplanes powered by traditional gas piston engines. This test program, through a series of modifications, allows researchers to take a step-by-step approach to demonstrate technical improvements.

When complete, the X-57 Maxwell test program hopes to demonstrate how to safely operate an all-electric, zero-emissions aircraft, including its battery and power distribution systems. That knowledge will be helpful to future engineers interested in designing all-electric air vehicles that might be used for everything from advanced air mobility to moving passengers and cargo.

LaTina Taylor is a NASA Education Specialist with NASA EPDC at Texas State University and is deeply committed to providing STEM Education to students and families in urban communities. A native of Chicago, Illinois, LaTina has over 24 years of experience in education with the Chicago Public Schools and is a National Board Certified Teacher with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. During her tenure with CPS LaTina has received several grant awards (i.e. iPads, 3D printers, and LEGO Robotics) for students at the schools she has serviced.

Ms. Taylor has worked in STEM Education in various capacities - as a STEM Technology Specialist, STEM professional developer, and Program Director with the Chicago Pre-College Science & Engineering Program (ChiS&E). She has designed and implemented STEM curriculum (K-12), trained families on STEM and innovative technology tools, and provided professional development to teachers on effective research-based STEM integration pedagogy into their curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

LaTina has also been a presenter at numerous science, math, and technology conferences at the local, state, and national levels.

 
 
 
 

Susan Kohler is the current Education Professional Development Specialist at Glenn Research Center and serves the states of Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota. She has more than 25 years of progressively responsible K-12 educational leadership experience. She has served as Asst. Principal, Principal, Curriculum Director, Math/Science Consultant and Asst. Superintendent. Susan taught science for 13 years at the high school level. Her expertise in STEM and professional development is combined with her knowledge of new technology trends and innovative instructional strategies. Susan holds a Master’s in Education Administration from Bowling Green State College as well as a Bachelors degree of Science in Biological Sciences with the emphasis on Neurophysiology from Ramapo College in New Jersey.
