Course Description |
Introduction Into Auditing with Excel will provide the tools necessary to create and use basic to moderately complex spreadsheets. Participants will receive an overview of Microsoft Excel and how to best use the system to assist in future audit efforts. This includes learning various ways to write simple to moderately complex formulas, learning simple shortcuts that will save hours of audit time, basic filtering and sorting, formatting, an introduction to PivotTables, working with charts and graphics, and an introduction to macros, all of which will be useful for auditors.
This course is designed to be hands-on. Please bring a laptop and come prepared to do some data crunching!
We will also be offering this opportunity via teams!
Learning Outcomes:
• Learn and understand how to write moderate and complex functions/formulas useful for auditors (e.g., MAX, MIN, AVG, IF, AND, OR, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, IFERROR, LEFT, RIGHT, MID, CONCATENATE, OFFSET, TRIM)
• Use quick Excel tips and keyboard shortcuts that will save time and allow you to become more efficient in assigned audits
• Learn to use various lookup and reference functions (VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, INDEX & MATCH)
• Trace Precedents and Dependents in Excel Formulas to audit Excel formulas
• Use Excel’s Goal Seek and Solver tools
• Collect and organize data in Excel worksheets (e.g., bring data from multiple sources into one worksheet, how to create audit testing worksheets, best practices for testing audit data, etc.)
• Filter, sort, and analyze data
• Find and remove duplicate data
• Use conditional formatting to find inconsistencies and errors
• Create and format charts and graphics
• Analyze charts and data for management reporting and data analytics
• Understand and create moderate to complex PivotTable reports and charts
• Utilize PivotTables and Pivot Charts to drill down into data and to further analyze data sets
