![]() | Role of the RNG in the Energy Transition and in the Quebec Economy Development Richelieu ABC Speaker: Mathieu Johnson, RNG Director, Energir With the adoption of the new 2030 energetic Policy, the government of Quebec has clearly indicated its intention to diversify its sources of energy in its fight against climate change. Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) has been specifically named and considered as a source of alternative energy, and the government aimed at fixing the minimum quantity of RNG to be delivered by a natural gas distributor to 5% by 2025. In this context and at a time of an energy transition, production, distribution and consumption of RNG constitutes an opportunity to consider carefully among the energy sources of the future. At Énergir, RNG is at the center of our priorities and has become one of our key measures to support Québec's energy transition by distributing clean, locally produced energy that is perfectly interchangeable with natural gas.

![]() | High Fidelity Sensing Pipeline Leak Detection Saguenay Speaker: Steve Koles, Hifi Engineering Distributed fiber optic sensing has been gaining significant momentum in pipeline industry adoption. The primary application of this technology has been in preventative leak detection, but new applications such as pipeline flow rate monitoring are now emerging and promise to deliver extra value to the pipeline operators. Case studies will be provided to showcase the value of using artificial intelligence to explore new frontiers in pipeline monitoring.

![]() | Dithiazine Deposition Saguenay Speaker: John Anderson, Director Business Development, Emerson High pressure regulating stations have experienced several issues with solid dithiazine deposition, commonly referred to as Sulphur within the industry, when subjected to pressure reductions. This substance coats regulator and valve parts causing sticking, reduced flow and excessive friction that can lead to the eventual failure of the pressure regulator. The discussion will focus around the origin and source of dithiazine as it pertains to triazine chemistry used for Oil and Gas H2S scavenging, conditions in which deposition commonly occurs and how to address the cause and effects with the supplier. Also discussed is how dithiazine deposits affect regulator control and how to clean and rebuild valves and regulators that have experienced prolonged exposure to dithiazine solids.
![]() | Odourization Systems Overview Tea Room Speaker: Ann-Marie Hessian, Enbridge Gas Inc. The odorization of natural gas is federally mandated for public safety. Odorization systems have been developed to ensure the public can readily detect and report natural gas leaks well before the natural gas reaches dangerous levels. How natural gas is odorized is dependent on a variety of factors, such as application, location, and flow rate. Continual and consistent odorization is especially critical when odorizing distribution lines with high flow rates serving large communities. For such applications, either automatic pump injection or pulse bypass odorization systems are used. As emissions from all field equipment becomes more significant, reducing the carbon footprint from your odorization system can be a win for your organization. Most pump injection systems are actuated using pipeline gas, which is subsequently vented to the atmosphere, making it undesirable for markets striving for low to zero emissions. The number of leak calls your company receives when odorized gas is vented in residential area can also be an issue. It is possible to achieve zero emissions with a pumpless Welker OdorEyes automatic bypass system. In this system, unodorized upstream gas serves as system supply gas and is then used as the blanket pressure source for the odorant tank, thus no gas is vented to the atmosphere. This presentation would go further into detail about the proprietary technology that achieves zero emissions.

![]() | Understanding the Similarities & Differences Between Double Block & Bleed and Double Isolation & Bleed Saguenay Speaker: Caroline Heon-Roberts, Boehmer GmbH Within the Oil & Gas industry, the term Double Block & Bleed (DBB) has become somewhat of a generic term; API6D Annex K was devised to further define this general concept to adapt it for pipeline service. The Annex also details if single piston or double piston seat designs are used. As an operator, having a clear understanding of these concepts can help minimize confusion and prevent incorrect specifications. In this presentation, we will explore similarities and differences between Double Block and Bleed versus Double Isolation and Bleed by way of an explanation using single piston and double piston seat design for ball valves.
