Roland F. Line Memorial Prize

The Roland F. Line Memorial Prize will be presented to an Outstanding Young Scientist specializing in cereal rusts and powdery mildews as chosen by the EMCRF board. The winner of the award will have the opportunity to present an invited lecture at the 2018 ICRPMC meeting in South Africa. Travel and accommodation will be sponsored to a maximum of €1500 by the EMCRF board. Eligible candidates include those busy with post-graduate studies or those having obtained their PhD during or after 2012. Applicants in a tenure-track, assistant professor or similar position do not qualify. The application must include an abstract of maximum 400 words (with optionally one figure or table), a letter of maximum 250 words stating the applicant’s personal contribution to the research, a CV of no more than two pages and a confidential letter of support from his/her direct supervisor. Completed applications must be submitted to the LOC (visserb@ufs.ac.za) by 31 January 2018, and the winner will be notified by 31 March 2018. The decision of the EMCRF board is final. Unsuccessful applicants that qualify will automatically be considered for the “early-career” scientist sponsorships.


Financial support for “early-career” scientists

Three grants covering travelling and accommodation expenses are available to support the participation of younger scientists at the 2018 ICRPMC. The successful candidates will present an oral paper of 15 minutes at the conference. Priority will be given to cereal rusts or powdery mildews researchers from Africa and Asia. Applicants must have obtained an MSc or equivalent degree no earlier than 2012. The application must include an abstract of no more than 400 words (with optionally one figure or table), and a short CV of no more than two pages. Completed applications must be submitted to the LOC (visserb@ufs.ac.za) by 31 January 2018, and the winners will be notified by 31 March 2018. The decision of the LOC is final.

Application for oral presentations

The program for the 2018 ICRPMC in Skukuza allows for a total of 30 oral presentations. Delegates who wish to be considered must submit their abstracts of no more than 400 words by 30 April 2018. Selection of the oral presentations will be done by the LOC and the successful speakers will be notified by 31 May 2018. Unsuccessful applicants will be encouraged to present a poster. The decision of the LOC is final. All abstracts received after 30 April 2018 will only be considered for a poster presentation. You will have the option of having your posters printed in South Africa.


Thematic discussion sessions

Two thematic discussion sessions are scheduled for the Monday (24 September) and Tuesday (25 September) evenings of the conference. Delegates interested to facilitate these sessions, are invited to contact the LOC (visserb@ufs.ac.za) with a topic of their choice, as well as the names of possible co-facilitators.
