We warmly invite you to the 2026 ARANZ Conference in Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington,
where we celebrate 50 years of the Archives and Records Association of New Zealand.
He aha te mea nui ō te ao? He tāngata. He tāngata. He tāngata.
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people. It is people. It is people.
Our conference theme focuses on people. The people who create and maintain records. The
people whose stories and knowledge are found in archives, and the people whose stories are
missing. The people who use archives and records, now and in the future. Community
members, researchers, students, policymakers, artists, dreamers… Mā wai ēnei mahi places
people at the heart of our conference and at the heart of our practice. Everyone has a place in the archives.
At this conference, we’ll discuss the past, present, and future of the Association and the
archives and records profession in Aotearoa. How have we supported people over the past fifty
years? How do we honour knowledge across our many communities and cultures? How can we
continue to improve connections between records, archives, and communities over the next fifty years?
Call for Proposals
ARANZ is calling for submissions that build on the theme of Mā Wai - exploring connections across our sector, organisations, community, and the sector.
Whether you’ve presented at a Conference before or are just starting out, ARANZ welcomes diverse perspectives and ideas.
Submissions close 21 August 2026.
Accepted submissions will be confirmed by email two weeks following the close of submissions.
About ARANZ
The Archives and Records Association of New Zealand (ARANZ) is a national professional body representing people working with archives and records across Aotearoa New Zealand. It exists to promote the value of effective recordkeeping and archival practice in supporting accountability, memory, and access to information.
ARANZ supports professional development through conferences, publications, branch activities, and knowledge sharing across the sector. It also acts as an advocate for good recordkeeping practice and contributes to discussions on standards and policy affecting archives and information management. It functions as a community of practice connecting professionals and others interested in the long-term preservation and use of documentary heritage.
