About the Event

Join UNC Kenan-Flagler faculty and your family enterprise peers for an immersive two-day conference.

The Forum will be a hands-on experience to help you:

• Step away from your daily responsibilities to focus on building leadership capabilities. 
• Explore the multiple leadership roles in your family enterprise: ownership, family, business, and the board, and self – to determine what is working well and where you may need to make changes in the future.
• Learn from business school faculty with the goal of applying current research to your own leadership and better support the other leaders in your family enterprise.
• Build relationships with other families.
• Leave with tangible next steps and an accountability plan.

The Forum will be helpful for owners of family enterprises at every stage of growth. Participants will find it useful to bring multiple family members from more than one generation. Non-family executives will also benefit from this program.

NOTE: Every member of your family enterprise has opportunities to demonstrate leadership - whether or not they hold an official title or role.

Wednesday, October 28, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, followed by 5:30 – 8:30 pm reception and dinner

Thursday, October 29, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

Highlights of this year’s forum include: 

• Breakout groups designed to facilitate peer sharing and real-world application
• Luncheons on both days designed to promote one-on-one discussion with other families
• Reception and seated dinner at the DuBose House (on Rizzo Center campus)
• Executive classroom meeting space at UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Rizzo Conference Center

• Gerald Cohen, Research Professor of Finance and Chief Economist of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise
• Stephen P. Miller, Co-Founder of the Family Enterprise Center and Adjunct Assistant Professor, Organizational Behavior
• Cooper S. Biersach, Co-Founder of the Family Enterprise Center and Professor of the Practice, Organizational Behavior
• Chris Maslin, VP of HR & Organizational Development, Biltmore and Professor of the Practice at UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Family Enterprise Center

1. Rising Generation Panel: A panel of rising generation leaders will share lessons learned from their return to family firms and ideas for supporting rising generation leaders.
