Q: I want to participate in the pediatric well-child simulation! What are the prerequisites?

You must have completed an approved 40-hour didactic pediatric SANE course. The Center of Excellence in Forensic Nursing at Texas A&M University offers an excellent course. You can view course offerings by clicking “Event Registration” in the top blue ribbon of this page.

Q: I want to participate in the adolescent/adult simulation! What are the prerequisites?

Q: When can I start doing medical forensic examinations with sexual assault evidence collection kits that count toward certification?

For adult/adolescents, you must first take an approved 40-hour didactic adult/adolescent SANE course. Then, complete at least 15 pelvic examinations (these can be in conjunction with the sexual assault examinations). For pediatrics, you must first take an approved 40-hour didactic pediatric/adolescent SANE course. Then, you must complete 15 pelvic examinations (can be the same 15 mentioned before, you don’t have to re-do this) as well as 20 well-child examinations.
