The Value of Universities in the Era of Artificial Intelligence 

 

Hosted by Murdoch University, the International Association of Universities' 17th General Conference on The Value of Universities in the Era of Artificial Intelligence will feature a dynamic programme exploring emerging trends in higher education, drawing on diverse perspectives from all regions of the world. 

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) marks a pivotal moment in societal development, particularly in relation to the evolution of human knowledge. AI is reshaping how information is accessed, generated, and shared. By replicating capacities once considered uniquely human, AI raises fundamental questions about what it means to know, to learn, and by consequence how we perceive the world. It invites us to reflect on the forms of human–machine coexistence we wish to cultivate and the values that should guide this transformation. Read the full concept note here.

The IAU 17th General Conference will convene around 400 university leaders from more than 80 countries around the world to discuss these important questions and to inspire and shape institutional transformation. Register before 15 Spetember to benefit from the Early Bird rate.

Administrative Board Elections

Help shape the future of the International Association of Universities by participating in the Administrative Board elections. IAU Members are invited to vote for candidates, while eligible representatives from Member institutions may also stand for election. Your participation ensures the IAU continues to reflect the diverse voices and priorities of the global higher education community.

Executive Leadership Programme

The IAU Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) empowers university leaders with a comprehensive framework to navigate the managerial, ethical, economic, and societal challenges facing higher education today. Through expert-led sessions and peer exchange, participants gain actionable insights and strategies to drive institutional impact and innovation.

About the General Conference

 

The General Conference is the supreme decision-making body of the Association. Convened every four years, it is the occasion on which all IAU Members elect the IAU President and Administrative Board members, while also setting the strategic direction for the years ahead.

In addition to the thematic programme, the General Conference includes a series of dedicated Business Sessions. These sessions provide an overview of statutory matters, highlight key achievements from the past four years, and introduce the strategic vision moving forward, including opportunities for engagement in the work of the Association. They also include the election process.

While the Business Sessions are open to all conference delegates, only representatives of IAU Member institutions and organizations are eligible to vote in the elections for the IAU President and Administrative Board members.
