2026 ERQ Energy Law Forum

May 4 & 5, 2026

It is a time of rapid change in Canada, driven by geopolitical forces, technological change, and evolving attitudes regarding climate change and future economic growth. Canada’s energy system is at the core of much of this discussion – how to balance the three competing priorities of our energy system: energy security, sustainability, and affordability. The resulting reconsideration of energy policy by all levels of government across Canada has consequences for the delegation of decision authority by governments to regulators: what regulators will decide, how decisions will be made, and whether and by whom decisions will be reviewed.

The 2026 ERQ Energy Law Forum will explore Canada’s geopolitical and economic context, delve into recent advances in administrative law, and discuss the issues faced by regulators in the hearing room – new energy law issues, energy system challenges, and keeping the system affordable for customers.
