Canadian Medical Association

Accelerating Action
in Health Care

Given the rapidly escalating situation across the country and globally, and with the paramount concern of physicians and the health care system in mind, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) has introduced crucial steps to slow the spread of COVID-19.

In particular, we have cancelled or postponed a number of meetings, events and courses and transitioned others to virtual participation.

While August is still several months away, we believe that providing clarity for all those involved in the CMA Health Summit couldn’t be delayed. As such, we have made the decision to cancel the Health Summit, slated to take place August 22-23 in Halifax, NS.

If you have already registered for the Health Summit, you will receive information on refunds (as applicable) by email.

The CMA Annual General Meeting and General Council Elections will be held virtually on Sunday, August 23. Further details will be communicated as they are confirmed.

Please contact us at for any questions.

We’re on the edge of North America and in the centre of it all! Located in the heart of the city’s entertainment district, the Halifax Convention Centre combines elegant, world-class meeting space, impeccable service and award-winning cuisine ― all just steps away from fantastic arts, culture and Maritime hospitality.

The Health Summit Experience

Now in its third year, the Health Summit has quickly become CMA’s signature annual event and an important engagement and networking forum that brings together physicians, partners and stakeholders from across the country and internationally.

Through the Health Summit, the CMA aims to:

  • Maintain momentum on our flagship initiatives while offering unique opportunities to explore emerging issues.
  • Deliver a highly valuable learning and networking experience for attendees.
  • Offer a rich and engaging experience that is cohesive and supportive of CMA’s strategic goals and vision for the future.
  • Help members, health care practitioners and patient representatives connect with each other and return to their communities and workplaces more engaged and empowered than ever before.

For all Summit attendees:

The CMA is committed to the highest standard of respect and dignity at each one of its events, offering a safe and respectful space to share knowledge, perspectives and experiences. We expect all participants to conduct themselves in a welcoming and non-judgmental manner respecting the perspectives, personal stories and lived experiences being shared and the opportunities they offer for careful insight into and reflection on the health care journey. This applies to all facets of the Health Summit, on- or off-site, where participants (including attendees, speakers, staff and volunteers) are in attendance. Should you be subject to—or witness any—inappropriate behaviour or language, please notify registration staff immediately so that appropriate action can be initiated.

The CMA Health Summit is proud to be #PatientsIncluded. We have many patients and caregivers participating in our event. Please support their Health Summit experience, bearing in mind that:

  • Patient stories are personal lived experience ― not meant to blame and shame, but to offer careful insight and reflection into the health care journey with the goal of learning and challenging assumptions.
  • Delegates are not expected to ‘fix’ the patient story/experience, but to consider lessons learned and opportunities to adapt or change based on recommendations/ advice/ experiences of the story-teller.
  • Patient stories can be difficult to hear. We encourage delegates to seek support if they feel emotional and personally challenged by hearing a patient story.
