Keynote Conversation: Art, Resistance, and the Long Arc of Justice

From the Civil Rights-era struggle for farmworkers’ rights to today’s movement-building in the face of inhumane ICE raids targeting immigrant communities, the fight for justice persists across generations, returning to the same urgent question: How do we respond now?

CA for the Arts is excited to announce the Keynote Conversation: “Art, Resistance, and the Long Arc of Justice.” This keynote conversation explores the enduring history of resistance and the essential role of arts and culture in advancing peace through justice.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson, University Professor of Creativity and Social Impact, Arizona State University, featuring an incredible powerhouse of activist and culture leaders, including Hector Flores, Artistic Director, Las Cafeteras and Luis Valdez, Founding Artistic Director, El Teatro Campesino. The panel will also feature a special prerecorded message from Dolores Huerta, Founder and President of the Dolores Huerta Foundation and Co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America.

Grounded in the legacy of cultural and movement leaders whose organizing and creative work reshaped labor rights, civic power, and public consciousness, the conversation traces how art, storytelling, and cultural practice have long fueled social change.
