7F Users Group, Inc. has grown dramatically since its first meeting in November 1991 in Baltimore, attended by 14 O&M personnel from four companies. The only 7F engine in service at that time was Virginia Electric & Power Co’s Chesterfield 7. It had been integrated with an existing steamer and new heat-recovery steam generator to configure a 1 x 1 combined cycle. Fast forward to today: The OEM has shipped to customers more than 1000 F-class gas turbines since Chesterfield 7 left the shop. The majority of these units are 7FAs.
The 7F CT has been the workhorse of the electric power grid in North America as well as other parts of the world and will continue to fill that role into the coming decades. There have been several variations and improvements along the years by GE Vernova as well as many third-party vendors. As the fuel landscape is expected to change in the next couple decades, we will be called to keep pace with the inevitable technological improvements to maintain the reliability of the electric grid. The 7F Users Conference will continue to play an important role in that process. (David Such, 2024 Chairman)
