The Summit for AI Institutes Leadership (SAIL) annual conference is featuring a new event this year, the Graduate Student Workshop. Join us on October 21, 2025, in Reston, VA to witness trailblazing research in AI.
At SAIL, you’ll discover cutting-edge AI research happening in multiple fields at the 29 AI Institutes of the National AI Research Institutes program. During the three-day conference, explore how AI is transforming and improving our world, including demonstrations of how AI helps tackle cybersecurity, edge computing, generative AI, agricultural challenges, enhancing education, and much more.
Be at the forefront of AI innovation:
- Meet with AI Institute leadership and other industry experts and partners.
- See current research results across all AI Institutes – witness the progress we’re making across science and society firsthand.
- Talk with other student researchers – meet the next generation of AI pioneers and leaders.

How the Student Selection Process Works
- Each Institute can designate two GSRs or postdocs to attend SAIL 2025 in person (all three days, October 21–23, 2025), with all expenses paid by AIVO.
- AIVO will book their hotel room and also cover registration.
- After the conference ends, AIVO will provide a Travel Reimbursement form once they are ready to submit their reimbursement documents (for airfare and other personal changes, such as meals not included during the conference).
- Student selection is based on best fit to the goal of providing potential leaders a way to learn about AI Institutes, share what they do, and make meaningful connections.
- Students should be able to articulate what their Institute does, the potential impact of their work, and how their work fits into their Institute's mission.
Student Requirements
By attending, the student agrees to:
- Provide a 48"W x 36"H poster by September 30, 2025.
- AIVO will provide a drop folder, a PPT template (if needed,) and will take care of printing. The due date is September 30, 2025.
- Provide a short 15-30 second video describing your research.
- It should be “punchy,” e.g., energetic with multiple cuts, in which you describe your research.
These will be shown in groups of about six prior to each session.
- AIVO will provide a drop folder for MP4s.

- Be able to articulate:
- What your Institute does
- Potential impact of your work
- How your work fits into your Institute's mission
- Optional: Provide a 30-60 second video for AIVO’s use after SAIL, to help amplify the messaging of what GSRs at the Institutes are doing. Deadline to follow.

About the AI Institutes
The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) began establishing AI Institutes in 2020 to serve as national nexus points for collaborative AI efforts spanning higher education institutions, federal agencies, industry, and nonprofits/foundations. These 29 AI Institutes will showcase their research during the Partner Showcase at SAIL.
