Wildfire Preparation and Mitigation for Power Grids: Utility Experience and Recent Advancements

Abstract:
Wildfire risks to power systems have escalated significantly due to new climate patterns, expanded urban-wildland interfaces, and evolving grid operations. This workshop will bring together utilities, vendors, R&D organizations, and academic experts to share utility experience, actionable insights, emerging technologies, and show commercial solutions. The workshop will feature three focused sections: (1) utility experience and case studies highlighting practical challenges, preparedness, and mitigation practices, (2) recent R&D advancements in wildfire modeling, risk assessment, grid hardening, and operational mitigation strategies, and (3) technical lightning talks showcasing tools, technologies, and solutions from vendors and R&D labs. The workshop aims to foster cross-sector dialogue and accelerate the adoption of effective wildfire resilience strategies in power grids.
