Explore the Wild Within at the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden & Babylonstoren Tour
Born in 1964 into a deeply creative South African family, Dylan Lewis was surrounded by art from an early age. He began his artistic journey as a painter but soon found his true medium in sculpture.
Now recognized as one of the world’s leading sculptors of the animal form, Dylan first captured the raw power of big cats before turning to the human figure to explore our connection to nature and the inner wilderness. His career spans more than two decades and includes exhibitions in Paris, Sydney, Toronto, Houston, and San Francisco, along with solo shows in London, where he is one of the few living artists to have held solo auctions at Christie’s.
Join Dylan on a special IWF-curated tour of his breathtaking Sculpture Garden at Mulberry Farm, located at the base of the Stellenbosch Mountains. In this extraordinary setting, he’ll share his personal journey and the inspiration behind alandscape where art, nature, and introspection meet.
Following the morning tour, the group will depart for lunch at Babylonstoren, a renowned South African wine farm with a rich history dating back to 1692, when it was granted to Pieter van der Byl by Governor Simon van der Stel. One of the oldest European farms in South Africa, Babylonstoren was originally used to grow wine and wheat. Its name comes from a hill on the property that early settlers thought resembled the Tower of Babel. Today, under the ownership of Koos Bekker and Karen Roos, the farm is celebrated for its award-winning wines and beautifully restored gardens.
Lunch will be served in the Spice Garden, where a rustic setting and a harvest-style menu create an atmosphere of abundance and connection. Following the meal, enjoy a guided wine tasting featuring a curated selection of ten exceptional wines, along with an educational cellar tour that shares the story behind each bottle. The experience will end with a walk through the Gardens which offers the space to soak in the natural Cape Floral Kingdom.
