What is the recommended attire?

Business casual attire is appropriate for daytime programs, Cocktail attire for the Opening Reception and Business/Cocktail attire for Dine Arounds/Guest Dinner. African Black Tie attire for the Leading Light Gala and Celebration.

African Black Tie attire is an elegant and culturally-expressive dress code that blends traditional African formalwear with elements of Western black tie. Think: bold patterns, vibrant colors, and traditional textiles.

For Women:

  • Traditional Option: An elegant gown or wrapper and blouse, often made from Ankara, kente, lace, or aso-oke fabric, with elaborate headwraps.
  • Western Hybrid: A black tie evening gown made with African print fabrics or styled with African jewelry and accessories.
  • Footwear: High heels or dressy sandals.

For Men:

  • Traditional Option: A dashiki with trousers, or a stylish kaftan—often made from luxurious fabrics like brocade or silk.
  • Western Hybrid: A classic tuxedo or dark suit paired with African-inspired accessories (e.g., kente bowtie, printed pocket square, or cap like a fila or kufi).

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for the Behind The Scenes on Thursday afternoon.

Guest & Young Leader Policy

Members are encouraged to invite and bring, in addition to any other guest, a high-potential young leader, age 25 - 35. There are special registration fees for guests and Young Leaders that entitle them to attend all sessions of the program except the Member Dine Around. A guest dinner is planned for all guests and young leaders.

IWF Payment Policy
