Maintenance of Certification

Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) Module

Eligibility:  

A Diplomate can repeat the KSA every three years from the date of completion. The only exception is if an activity is taken offline and replaced with a new topic covering the same type of content or if a new version of the activity is released. If you have taken this KSA module previously, please check your completion dates to ensure you are eligible to receive credit during this session.  

WHAT TO EXPECT 

Benefits of Participation: 
Save time, enjoy collegial group learning, and pass the 60 knowledge questions for the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)-developed Maintenance of Certification Part II Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) Module.   

Format: 
This session is conducted in an interactive group setting with educational support with active group participation using audience response methods, and discussing expert and peer understanding of current evidence.  
The goal is to achieve a common consensus in answering these questions. The group process enhances learning and retention of current medical information. At the end of the session, faculty will input the 60 answers for the whole group.  
Note: 

  • Before this session: All participants must be current with ABFM fees prior to attending, in order to receive ABFM credit for the KSA. Correct ABFM# must be provided during Symposium registration process. 
  • After this session: Participants may go to the ABFM website to confirm they received the KSA 10 MOC points. The Clinical Simulation is optional for 5 additional points. 

Learning Objectives: At the end of this activity, participants should be able to… 

  1. Examine personal gaps in clinical practice relative to care for patients with diabetes. 
  1. Provide equitable care for these patients. 
  1. Incorporate at least one change in practice to address personal practice gaps. 

 Maintenance of Certification Part II credit: 

  • Participants who are enrolled in ABFM’s Continuous Certification process can access a copy of the Diabetes activity from the ABFM website by logging into your “MyABFM” Physician Portfolio (https://www.theabfm.org/
  • Those who complete the ABFM KSA will receive 10 certification points toward ABFM’s Knowledge Self-Assessment requirement for Continuous Certification.  

CME Credit (8.0 AAFP Prescribed): 

  • Upon successful completion of the ABFM KSA and once the group participation is submitted, the ABFM will automatically (within a few days) report 8 CME Credits to the AAFP. For more information about CME accreditation for this activity, please visit your “MyABFM” Physician Portfolio.
