Visa Requirements

If you are traveling to the United States from abroad, please check the U.S. Department of State website to determine if you need a visa. Visitors from certain countries may qualify for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which allows stays of up to 90 days without a visa. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Monterey Bay is accessible via several major airports. The most convenient options include: 

San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) 

  • Distance to Monterey Bay: Approximately 75 miles (120 km)

  • Transportation Options: 

    • Rental Cars: Available at the airport 

    • Ride-Sharing: Uber & Lyft services are available 

    • Shuttle Services: Monterey Airbus provides direct shuttles to the region 

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) 

  • Distance to Monterey Bay: Approximately 110 miles (177 km) 

  • Transportation Options: 

    • Rental Cars: Available at the airport 

    • Ride-Sharing: Uber & Lyft services are available 

    • Shuttle Services: Monterey Airbus offers scheduled shuttle rides to Monterey

Option to add a shuttle to your Congress ticket for $45/person each way from the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Monterey and back to the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Two shuttles will be available from SFO to Monterey before the start of the Congress. The first will leave SFO at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 6 for the Portola Hotel, Monterey. The second will leave SFO at 10:00 am Sunday, June 7 for the Portola Hotel, Monterey.   A shuttle will leave the Portola Hotel, Monterey for SFO on Wednesday, June 10 at 2:00 pm.

 

Getting Around Monterey Bay

Once in Monterey Bay, transportation is convenient with several options available: 

  • Uber & Lyft: Reliable and widely used in the area 
  • Public Transit: Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) provides local bus services 
  • Rental Cars: Available at the Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) 
  • Bicycle Rentals: A great way to explore the scenic coastal areas
