COVID-19 Junior Fellow Ob/Gyn Oral History Video

ACOG District II is looking for an oral history of your experiences and lessons learned in New York State during the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has made an impact on you professionally and even personally. If you would like to submit an oral history, please review the submission criteria below. All submissions will be compiled into one video and archived for the future. Select videos will be condensed and shared virtually. Deadline is September 28.

Tips to create an oral history video

We want to hear about whatever aspect of your experience you wish to share in 1 minute or less. You might consider choosing one of the most impactful moments, or experiences, such as:

  • How COVID-19 affected your daily life
  • What was it like on the front lines (provide an example)
  • What did it feel like to not be able to go home or see family and friends
  • What would you tell other colleagues, medical professionals in responding to this pandemic
  • What is one thing you will always remember about this time in your life and career

How to submit a video:

  • Record your video on your phone, iPad, or personal computer, and email it directly to Kelly Gilchrist at kgilchrist@ny.acog.org, with the subject line: Oral History Video
  • Start your video with your name, city, practice type, and years of service. Example format: Hello my name is ______, I am a third year resident practicing in Brooklyn, I will always remember…; or my name is _________, I am an MFM practicing for the past 10 years in Syracuse, my experience with COVID-19... *(DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR INSTITUTION NAME; see additional disclaimer detail below on content sharing).
  • Please ensure your video does not exceed one minute. We want to include as many stories as possible
  • Choose a quiet location where your voice can be heard and consider your background
  • Do not sit or stand too far away from the camera
  • Framing orientation: shoot landscape (horizontal), head and shoulders only if possible
  • Hold the camera as steady as possible (may use a mini tripod, balance the camera in some way or have someone film you)
  • Submission has been extended to Monday, October 26

NOTE: we will not accept any videos that would fall under the HIPAA policies for health records, such as physician notes or patient charts information. By submitting your video, you attest that such content is not present in your video. As you share your story, be mindful that submissions will be made available online and via social media. Please do not include any information, including identifying details about yourself or your friends and family that you don't want to share publicly. By submitting your video, you agree that your materials become part of the collective story of ACOG District II and COVID-19 and allow District II to edit, and share online or via social media avenues. Should you have any questions, you can contact Kelly Gilchrist at kgilchrist@ny.acog.org.
