Workshop on Novel and Emerging Uses of Sensor Technology in Mechanical, Fatigue, and Fracture Testing
(In-person only event)
Date: May 7, 2025
Event Location: Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Organized by: ASTM Committees E08 on Fatigue and Fracture and E28 on Mechanical Testing
About the Event
The Workshop on Novel and Emerging Uses of Sensor Technology in Mechanical, Fatigue, and Fracture Testing will be held May 7, 2025. The workshop is organized by ASTM Committees E08 on Fatigue and Fracture and E28 on Mechanical Testing, and will be held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in conjunction with the standards development meetings of the committee. The language of the workshop will be English.
Objective and Scope
This workshop will provide a forum to discuss new applications of measurement methods, and new ways of working, to control and analyze fatigue and fracture tests. This will facilitate the work of E08.03 in particular, and committees E08 and E28 in general, with regard to ensuring that our standards include appropriate, normative and informative specifications for latest methods of control, measurement, and analysis.
Specific topics might include (but are not limited to):
- Use of non-contacting extensometry for sensitive materials
- Novel measurement approaches for miniature specimens
- Application of full-field strain measurement for test control
- Use of DIC in analysis of ductile fracture behavior
- Improved analysis of fatigue performance using full-field stress or strain measurement
- Novel approaches to temperature control
- Diffraction studies of material structure during loading
- Sensor technology related issues (e.g., instrumentation, dynamometers, and accelerometers) in E467 Dynamic Force Verification
Technical Program
A technical program (presentation times and titles, and presenters’ names) will be posted on the ASTM website by April 2025.
Registration
Registration opens approximately 10 weeks before the start of the workshop.
