We hope you will find this local information from our committee members in Ireland helpful when making plans to explore the area.
Killashee Hotel & Spa is located 2 kilometres from Naas, which is the largest town in County Kildare and 30 kilometres from Dublin city centre. Dublin and Kildare are both in Leinster, one of the four provinces of Ireland. The most used Irish translation of Naas is “An Nás” which means the place of assembly, so it is fitting that the 2025 CSEA EMEA Conference will be hosted in Naas!
Kildare is part of Ireland’s Ancient East. In Irish, Kildare is “Cill Dara” which means Church of the Oak and it is believed that St. Brigid, one of the patron saints of Ireland, founded a monastery there. The story goes that she approached the King of Leinster for land in which to build her monastery asking 'give me as much land as my cloak can cover'. The King initially refused but when he heard of this suggestion and saw the size of her cloak, he laughed and agreed. According to legend, she had people take a corner of the cloak and walk in opposite directions and the cloak began to grow and spread across hundreds of acres!
Kildare is also home to world-renowned companies such as Intel, Hewlett Packard, Pfizer, and Kerry Group. Strong indigenous companies such as the Queally Group, O’Brien Fine Foods, and Green Isle have created a legacy of success in Kildare and a strong vibrant ecosystem of high potential start-ups that include med-tech, bio-pharma, and ICT services are also present. And in case you are interested, the nickname for the Kildare Gaelic Athletics Association (GAA) team is the Lilywhites, as a result of its early jerseys being made from the bags of the Lilywhite Bakery.
