Crane Print by Caryl McHarney
The Potters of Mimbres
Sandhill Crane Eating A Frog
Signed print wrapped in original cellophane.
Number 20 of 30.
Descriptive text is on back of print.

This image of a sandhill crane eating a frog is done in the syle of and is a tribute to a tribe of great ancient potters, the Mimbres People. They lived in Southwestern New Mexico from 200 AD to 1300 AD. With unsurpassed artistic inspiration and great technical skill they poured their entire lived onto enduring pottery. In simple black, which sometimes turned rich red in the firing, they painted their hunts, their loves, births, deaths, ceremonies and celebrations. They observed and painted animals accurately and also combined people and insects and fish and the four legged into fantastic new forms. Their imaginations new no bounds. In the thirteenth century, long before the arrival of Europeans in North America, this great artistic tradition ended along with their culture. Their villages fell to ruins and their people disappeared. What happened to the Mimbres People is a mystery to this day.

Silent Auction

The silent auction is held during the banquet and is a fun opportunity to bid with friends and tablemates for a wide variety of items.  The funds generated from the silent auction all support the festival’s “Nature Fund” and are directed towards conservation and habitat improvements in the Sulphur Springs Valley.
