Online Registration

What if I need to make a change to my registration after I’ve submitted it?
Contact a Travel Program Specialist by phone at +1 (732) 379-6333 or send your request via email to travelspecialist@nxlperformance.com. Be sure to mention “GSI Dealer Business Meeting” in the subject line.

Why are my full legal name and date of birth required for registration?
This information is required by the hotel to make your reservation and must match your passport. You will be required to present your passport upon check-in. All guests under the age of 18 will be issued a special wristband.

Identification

What are the identification requirements?
A passport (valid for at least six months after travel dates or you may be denied boarding by the airlines) is REQUIRED for travel to and from Mexico. This is also the only allowable form of identification to re-enter the U.S. When listing names on the registration site, please ensure that you enter names EXACTLY as they appear on your passports.

U.S. passport cards are for crossing international land and sea borders only; they are not allowed for air travel. A passport is required to fly internationally.

  • If you do not have a passport or need to renew your passport: Rules and application forms will vary, depending on whether you are applying for a passport for the first time or if you need to renew your passport. For comprehensive information on obtaining or renewing a passport, please visit http://travel.state.gov and select “U.S. Passport”.

  • Non-U.S. Citizens: Please contact your nearest consulate for further information.

  • Non-U.S. Citizens living in the U.S.: Make sure to bring your proof of legal U.S. residence (resident card, for example) along with your foreign passport. Visas may be required. Please contact your nearest consulate for further information.

  • Non-U.S. Citizens connecting through the U.S.: If you are a non-U.S. citizen, you may need a Visa to connect through the United States. Please contact your nearest consulate for further information.

U.S. and Canadian citizens do not need a visa to enter Mexico, however, Canadian citizens will need a Visitor (B) visa if your flight connects through the United States. Citizens of all other countries must check with your official government website to see if a visa is required.

What is the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for non-U.S. citizens?
The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and allows eligible citizens or nationals of designated countries to travel through or to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without first obtaining a visa. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is an automated system that assists in determining eligibility to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. If you are originating from a non-ESTA country, this visa is still required if your passport has been issued from an ESTA country.

For more information, please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visa-waiver-program.html

The online application process is simple and costs $21 USD. Although there are several websites that can process your application, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website is the only official and most cost-effective site for application. https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Are there any other associated fees I need to be aware of?
You may be asked to pay a departure tax at the Cancun Airport after checking in for your flight home. This departure tax is technically still required but has not been enforced in the past couple of years. If you are asked to pay the tax, the cost is approximately $15 USD per person.

Luggage, Packing, and Preparing for Travel

How much luggage may I bring?
For checked luggage, every airline has its own luggage size and weight rules, but in general combined dimensions of “width + height + depth” should not exceed 62 inches per piece and cannot exceed 50 pounds. Fees are generally around $40 – 45 for the first piece of luggage per person and are higher for each additional suitcase. Some airlines offer a discount if you purchase your seats in advance or online during check-in (24 hours prior to your flight). You may incur additional charges if your luggage exceeds the airline’s maximum weight and size limits. You can find the luggage allowances and costs on most carriers’ websites.

For carry-on luggage, generally, each passenger is permitted one personal carry-on item that fits under the seat (handbag, laptop bag, etc.), and one bag which must be small enough to fit in the overhead compartment.

Please check with your carrier for their specific policy.

Luggage fees are considered a personal expense and cannot be reimbursed

Where should I check my luggage?
Check luggage from your home airport to Cancún International Airport. Claim checks should read CUN.

Where should I pack my prescriptions and over-the-counter medications?
Pack any prescription medications in their original bottles in your carry-on bag. Checked luggage can get delayed, usually temporarily, but sometimes the delay is too long to go without a prescription. Medications are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces. These items must be presented for inspection at the security checkpoint.

Should I bring credit cards?
All resorts and hotels require a valid major credit card upon check-in to open an incidental account. This allows you full access to the resort’s facilities, and the ability to post charges to your room account. It is not recommended to use a debit card, as a hold may be placed which is often inconvenient. Please do not present a corporate card, as personal incidental expenses will not be reimbursed.

Is travel insurance included?
Insurance is not included. As is customary with group travel, we have taken no additional insurance coverage. You are protected by (1) the regular airline insurance specified by the Warsaw Convention and (2) whatever normal travel insurance you carry.

What if I need to seek medical attention in Mexico?
For U.S. citizens traveling internationally, many U.S. health plans do not provide coverage in a foreign country. In Mexico it is common practice for doctors and hospitals to require that you to pay for the service up front. Please verify the terms of your plan before traveling. It is at your discretion should you decide to purchase travel medical insurance.

There are many companies that offer travel insurance which covers reimbursement for lost, stolen, or damaged luggage, cancellation coverage or trip interruption, 24/7 emergency medical assistance, medical coverage and emergency medical evacuation. Below is a list of highly rated travel insurance companies:

For non-US citizens, we recommend:

When should I arrive at the airport to check-in for my flight?
It is recommended to arrive at the airport a minimum of three hours prior to your scheduled departure time.

Transportation

How do I get from the airport to the hotel?
There will be plenty of staff at the Cancún International Airport to assist you when you arrive. Once you have picked up your luggage from baggage claim and passed through customs, proceed to the outside of the building (do not stop to talk to any vendors inside). Once you are outside the building, look for staff in yellow shirts holding a sign with the GSI logo. If you are arriving before January 6, they may be holding a sign with your name on it instead of the GSI logo.

What is the distance from the airport to the hotel?
The hotel is 40 minutes (18 miles) from the Cancún International Airport.

What if I change my flights after I’ve registered?
You must send your new flight itinerary via email to travelspecialist@nxlperformance.com so that your transportation between the airport and hotel gets changed accordingly.

What is the name and code of the airport I will be flying to?
You will be flying to Cancún International Airport. The airport code is CUN.

What is the room rate to extend my stay at the hotel?

Are airport transfers provided if I choose to extend my stay in Playa Mujeres?
Yes, transportation is provided between the airport and ATELIER Playa Mujeres Resort even if you extend your stay. If you choose to stay at another property for your extension, transportation between that property and ATELIER Playa Mujeres will be on your own.

What is the recommended mode of airport transportation, should I choose to stay at another hotel before or after the Dealer Business Meeting?
If you plan to travel to a resort other than Playa Mujeres, ground transportation needs to be pre-arranged. The best way to do this is via the airport website, where you can calculate and compare rates for various types of service or check with your hotel’s concierge for options they may offer. For airport-to-resort transportation, you are highly encouraged to make your arrangements prior to arrival in Cancun. Please visit www.cancunairport.com/transportation.html for more information.

Playa Del Carmen/Riviera Maya, Mexico

Is Playa Mujeres safe?
The answer is very much YES, with the normal proviso of common sense. Playa Mujeres is located outside of the Cancun downtown area and hotel zone and is a gated community. This exclusive area is comprised of luxurious all-inclusive hotels, a golf course, a marina, and a few private residences. Entrance into the area has a 24-hour security gate so only residents, guests of the hotels or golf course, and their employees are allowed access.

If you choose to go outside the Playa Mujeres area into Cancun, the area is split into two sections. The hotel zone rarely sees much crime outside drunken buffoonery, and there is always a reassuring police presence. The downtown area comes with the provisos of all major cities; all the tourist sites are in good areas though but remain vigilant. You’re safer in Cancun than in a number of major US cities.

Cancun has a crime rate that is similar to many major cities in the United States, most of which revolve around drug-trafficking turf wars and gang-related violence. Tourists are rarely the target but keep yourself out of trouble. Avoid buying drugs, don’t stay out until the wee hours of the morning, and limit your alcohol consumption off the resort. By following common sense safety measures, you can lower your chances of any incident.

Is it safe to drink the water?
The resorts and most restaurants in the Cancun region have water filtration systems to remove any waterborne bacteria. It is not recommended that you drink from the tap, even at the most upscale resorts. Stick to bottled water which is available in your guest room mini-bar and replenished daily. You can always request more if needed.

What is the time zone?
Playa Mujeres is on Eastern Time but does not observe Daylight Saving Time. In January, when it is 10:00 a.m. in New York, it is also 10:00 a.m. in Cancun.

What is the currency in Playa Mujeres?
The local currency in Mexico is the Peso (MXP) but US Dollars are widely accepted. If traveling from the U.S., there is no need to exchange currency but please keep in mind that small donations are easier for merchants to accept.  If paying in Pesos, the exchange rate is roughly 18 Pesos to each U.S. Dollar but tends to change daily.

Will my cell phone work in Playa del Carmen?
All major cell phone providers offer service in Playa Mujeres. You may need to adjust your calling plan accordingly. Be sure to check with your provider for details before you leave.

If returning to the U.S., is there a limit on the amount of goods or merchandise that I can bring back from Playa Mujeres?
U.S. Customs allows for a set amount of duty free “accompanied baggage” per person. Additional goods beyond your allowable accompanied baggage will be subject to tax. For more detailed information, please visit https://www.cbp.gov/travel/international-visitors/kbyg/customs-duty-info.
