Getting to Lake Tahoe

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO)

There are a few options for flying into South Lake Tahoe. The closest international airport is the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, offering flights on ten airlines, 20+ nonstop destinations, and 130+ daily flights. This airport is only one hour from South Lake Tahoe hotels.
 

Sacramento International Airport (SMF)

Another option is the Sacramento International Airport. SMF is roughly a 2-hour drive from Lake Tahoe and is served by 15 airlines offering more than 170 daily flights to over 40 nonstop destinations across the US, Canada, Mexico, and Hawaii. Southwest Airlines is the largest carrier, followed by American, Delta, and United.
 

Getting To and From the Reno-Lake Tahoe International Airport


South Tahoe Airporter

The South Tahoe Airporter is a convenient express shuttle service available multiple times daily from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. If you prefer a taxi, limo, bus, or car, visit the Driving to Lake Tahoe page.

 
Taxicabs

Taking a taxi to Stateline from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport is an option, but it will be expensive since the drive is about an hour. The passenger waiting area for taxis is located outside of the D Doors located north of Baggage Claim.
 

Using Uber or Lyft?

The cost for Uber or Lyft from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport will be over $100. The passenger pick-up area for ride shares is located outside of the D Doors located north of Baggage Claim. Follow signs outside of the D Doors, at the far north end of Baggage Claim, and look for the ride share shelter in the ground transportation lot where customers may safely wait for pick-up by the ride share.
 

Rental Cars

Reno-Tahoe International Airport provides convenient access to nine rental car agencies with rental car pick-up available right outside the terminal building. All rental car counters are located in baggage claim. 
 

Driving to Lake Tahoe

Regardless of where you’re driving from it’s easy to find a route on a major highway to Lake Tahoe and the last hour(s) of the journey are incredibly scenic mountain vistas. Coming from L.A. via Hwy 395 travels along the granite peaks of the Eastern Sierra once you reach Lone Pine. The drive from Reno is only an hour and traverses the Kit Carson Range. The last hour of the drive from the Bay Area climbs into the Sierra Nevada beginning at Placerville. More information can be found here.

 

Getting Around Lake Tahoe

Lake Link is a FREE, on-demand shuttle which takes you to South Shore beaches, trails, entertainment, and nightlife. Catch the service between 7am and 9pm on weekdays and 7am and 10pm on weekends.
