Getting to the Workshop

The greater “Bay Area” is serviced by a number of airports - serving a huge range of flight options both domestically and internationally. The following are listed in order of distance from Berkeley:

  • Oakland International Airport (OAK)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • San Jose International Airport (SJC)

Please note that the local regional train - the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) - directly services and connects Berkeley to OAK and SFO, but SJC is not connected in this way.

Local Transportation

The “Bay Area” has a range of local transportation options. Here are some of the most likely to be helpful during your visit to TOPO 2020:

  • Bay Area Rapid Transit - BART is the regional train service and will connect you to both the OAK and SFO airports, San Francisco, Oakland, and downtown Berkeley (among many other locations).
  • AC Transit - AC Transit is the local public transportation in and around Berkeley and Oakland. There are many bus routes to augment local travel in and around Berkeley and the campus.
  • Campus Shuttles - Bear Transit is the UC Berkeley-operated local shuttles and buses. These shuttles can provide local transit in and around campus. Of particular use is the “Perimeter” line which can transport you from downtown to the workshop for just $1.
  • Rideshare Apps - Both Uber and Lyft are extremely pervasive in Berkeley and can often provide economical and quick service for local trips in and around the Bay Area

Berkeley Landscape

From downtown Berkeley BART to the meeting location (Sibley Auditorium), it is 0.8 miles (1.29 km) and Google Maps says it will take ~18 minutes to complete this walk. While the walk is quite pleasant, working its way through campus, it is mostly uphill with a gradual gain of ~154 ft (47 m).
