2nd ASTM Bearing and Transmission Steels Technology Symposium
(In-person only event)
Date: May 7, 2025 - May 9, 2025
Event Location: Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Organized by: ASTM Committee on A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys
About the Event
The 2nd ASTM Bearing and Transmission Steels Technology Symposium will be held May 7, 2025 - May 9, 2025. The symposium is organized by ASTM Committee on A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, and will be held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in conjunction with the standards development meetings of the committee. The language of the symposium will be English.
Objective and Scope
ASTM International have a long and successful tradition of organizing rolling bearing symposia and publishing the papers. The merging of the responsibilities for rolling bearing and transmission steels specifications, within the A01.28 subcommittee, is an opportunity to apply the synergies of rolling and sliding contact steel technologies.
The objective of the symposium is to bring together rolling bearing and transmission steel practitioners from the steel industries, rolling bearing and transmission product producers and users, research and development institutes and academia to present the latest steel technologies developments.
Topics for this symposium include, but are not limited to:
- Review of contact mechanics and steel technology requirements in rolling bearing and transmission component contacts,
- New developments or reviews of steel technologies for rolling bearing and transmission components,
- Air-melt and re-melt steelmaking process developments for bearing and transmission steels related to cost, quality (value) and environmental considerations,
- New alloy and heat treatment developments,
- Developments in bearing and transmission steel quality assessment methods,
- Advances in rolling contact fatigue testing and sliding contact fatigue testing, including standardization, and relationships with service life,
- Advances in performance prediction for bearing and transmission components.
Sponsorship Opportunities
In an effort to keep the registration fees at a price point that will allow everyone to attend, the symposium chair is seeking sponsors to help offset those costs. Sponsorships are being accepted through March 31, 2025. For more information about sponsorship, please click here.
Publication Information
Symposium authors are required to submit their papers for ASTM publication in Selected Technical Papers (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community. STP papers should be full-length technical papers of approximately 10,000 words, significantly contribute to the technical literature, and must include a review of past work in the relevant area and present information of current interest or probe new fields. After the final selection of abstracts has been approved, the ASTM Editorial Office will send authors’ instructions via email, but also can be found by clicking here.
Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for the STP are due online no later than April 15, 2025 at the ASTM Editorial Office. The corresponding author (the author who is the main contact with ASTM Headquarters) will receive a copy of his/her paper in portable document format (PDF). All published authors will have the opportunity to purchase reprints of their papers at a nominal cost. Only those papers submitted by the manuscript due date will be included in the STP.
Please note that all submitted papers are subject to peer review by two independent reviewers. The STP will be submitted to the Library of Congress with an ISBN number and will be reviewed for inclusion in the Web of Science Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) and Google Scholar.
