The Conax name is very well known and recognized in the Nuclear Power industry. The Company was founded in 1951 by Mr. Maurice W. Connell in Buffalo, NY to provide high pressure conductor and probe seals, and later temperature sensors and explosive actuated products. When Mr. John Considine joined the company in 1953, it became known as Conax Inc.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s, there were three primary product lines: Explosive actuated products, Industrial gland seals and sensors, and special nuclear containment electric penetrations. Over the years the company was bought and sold several times until 1997, when the Nuclear Products Division of Conax Buffalo was merged with Imaging & Sensing Technologies (IST); the group that manufactured Westinghouse Epoxy EPA. In 2004, the owners of IST sold the company to an investment firm, which formed Mirion Technologies Inc.
Mirion Technologies (Conax Nuclear) Inc. (MTCN) first manufactured Containment Electric Penetrations Assemblies (EPA) in 1961 and Safety-Related, Class 1E EPA as the industry standards developed in the ‘70s. MTCN now has over fifty-five (55) years of EPA design, testing and production experience. MTCN’s EPA are environmentally and seismically qualified to the requirements of IEEE-317, IEEE-323, and IEEE-344. MTCN or Conax has manufactured Containment Electric Penetration Assemblies (EPA), Electric Conductor Seal Assemblies (ECSA), Nuclear Service Connectors (NSC), temperature sensors, thermowell, fiber optics and explosive squib valves at our location near Buffalo, NY. All manufacturing is performed under the control of our Nuclear Quality Assurance Program, which meets NQA-1 and the US Code of Federal Regulations 10CFR-50, Appendix B
Since the inception of the nuclear industry, MTCN (or Conax) has been the primary supplier of containment electric penetration assemblies and other products to nuclear plants worldwide. MTCN products are installed in most of the Nuclear Power Plants in the USA and in other countries, such as: Sweden, Great Britain, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, Canada, UAE, China, Mexico and Brazil
