2024 Connections for Learning Travel Grant

This grant is open to individuals/families with a bleeding disorder. Before applying for a travel grant, please review all the information below to ensure you are eligible. Ultra-Rare and Inhibitor programs have been folded into Connections for Learning and those families/individuals are eligible to apply through Connections for Learning. 

The Connections for Learning Travel Grant is generously supported by Dr. Elizabeth Fung, in loving memory of Dr. Christopher Fung, in addition to support from the Kopenitz Family.

Eligibility

  • NEW THIS YEAR: Individuals or families who have received a travel grant from NBDF in the PAST THREE YEARS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. Such applications will not be considered.

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

  • Applicants must reside in the United States or its territories.
  • Applicants must confirm that either themselves or their loved one has a bleeding disorder or is a carrier, and they are included in the application.
  • NBDF Staff, NBDF Board Members and other Chapter Staff as well as those working for industry (i.e. pharmaceutical companies or specialty pharmacies) are not eligible to apply.

Note: NBDF will only cover the cost of 1 room with a maximum occupancy of 4 people. You may bring additional family members at your own expense.

Program Requirements

  • If you are selected for a travel grant, attendance during conference hours is required for all participants ages 13 and older. If you and your family members do not attend the sessions at BDC, you will not be considered for future travel grants.

  • Attend the in-person travel grant welcome session that will be held the morning of Thursday, September 12, 2024

  • Complete the travel grant overall evaluation.
  • Attend the virtual post event meet up on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 8:00 PM ET.
  • Adhere to conference behavior guidelines.

Covered Expenses:

  • Airfare or Mileage

  • Kids Program for children 12 and younger.

  • NBDF allows up to 4 people per household.
  • Hotel accommodations are covered for a maximum of four nights (check-in on September 11 and check-out on September 15).
  • In-person registration fees to the conference are covered. If you apply for a travel grant and complete a payment for conference registration, you will NOT be given a refund if you are selected for the travel grant.

*The application will ask you which of those you truly need in order to attend. By selecting the accurate assistance. NBDF will be able to possibly open the grant up to more applicants.

Expenses NOT Covered by NBDF:

  • Ground transportation to and from the airport

  • Parking at your local airport

  • Mileage to and from your home airport
  • Airline baggage fees
  • Food and beverages are not provided, except for children ages 12 and under who are registered in the Kids Program. There are many opportunities at BDC for refreshments and meals, however, please be prepared to cover meals on your own.
  • Early arrivals and trip extensions
  • Additional family members outside of the 4 in your application can attend but only at your own expense. Below is an estimate of the expenses per additional family member should you decide to bring any other individual not listed on the application:   
    • Airfare (approximately $500 for round trip)
    • Conference Registration Fee for individuals 13 years old and above ($105 - $180, check our registration fees HERE)
    • Kids Program (Childcare) Fee for individuals 12 years old and under ($85- $130, Kids Program information HERE)
    • Additional hotel room for parties larger than four (4) people: approximately $280/night
    • Meals

Review Process

When applications close, the portions will be blinded (no names or identifying information included) and sent to our review committee. The review committee includes NBDF staff and community members. Applications are scored using a standard scoring rubric for the responses to the questions in the application.
