What can we expect from the Learn to Play program?

Learn to Play powered by CCM is an introduction to the basics of hocey – for those with little experience with the sport. For on-ice, our official equipment partner CCM can provide helmet, gloves, skates and a hockey stick for your daughter to use during the event. The goal is to gain exposure and learn the basics of the sport. We will have increased number of team members on-ice to ensure we are there to support all of our participants, therefore parents are not needed on the ice, but are welcome to stay on-site.

Please come prepared with comfortable activewear, towel, water bottle, and running shoes.

Are goalies welcome?
Yes, goalies are welcome! There will be an opportunity to define player position within the registration form.

Are parents required to stay on-site during the event?
All parents are welcome to stay on-site to watch their daughter(s), however this is not necessary. If you wish to leave, please ensure the event waiver has been signed by a parent or guardian prior to departure. Please note that due to space limitations, parents may not be allowed entry to some of the off-ice sessions.

What skill level is accepted?
Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest is an inclusive and welcoming event for girls of all skill levels. Each of our programs are available for both the U7-U11 and U13-U15 sessions. Recommended skill and experience levels for each of the programs is outlined below, however the choice of session is ultimately at the parents’ and participants’ discretion.

Learn To Play powered by CCM – currently interested in joining organized hockey, exposure to basics of the sport, great for introduction and beginners

Level Up Skills – currently participating in organized hockey, looking to further growth and development of skills

Elite Skills – currently playing at a competitive level, committed to play at high skill and high intensity levels

Are food and beverages provided?
A snack pack and beverage will be provided when participants arrive on-site. We strongly recommend that parents pack additional water and snacks for their daughters. Please ensure all snacks are nut-free.

My daughter has dietary restrictions, will these be accommodated?
Dietary restrictions will be handled on a case-by-case basis. You will be able to identify any dietary restrictions and allergies within your registration form.

What attire should my daughter wear?
All participants will take part in an on-ice, off-ice skills and off-ice classroom session. For these sessions, participants will require:

  • Full hockey equipment including all necessary protective gear (on-ice)
    • CCM will provide necessary equipment for Learn to Play participants at no cost.
