Academic Research Symposium Call for Papers

You are invited to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professional's (CSCMP’s) 2024 Academic Research Symposium (ARS), which will be held on Sunday, September 29 in Nashville, Tennessee, in conjunction with the CSCMP’s annual conference, EDGE. This conference provides an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues and share new research with top academics in the supply chain management discipline. In addition to the opportunity to reconnect with and confer with your colleagues, there are many additional ways to participate in this event. For instance, you might submit a full-length research or teaching paper to be considered for symposium awards and full-length presentation. You might also submit an abstract to report on teaching innovation or supply chain management research that is in progress. These abstracts will be considered for presentation at our expanded Poster Session. We also seek volunteers to develop and moderate expert panel sessions on timely and important topics that affect the supply chain management community at large. Finally, we can always use help reviewing submissions. Please find more details on these opportunities below. Thank you for your involvement in the 2024 CSCMP ARS. Research Submissions
Research submissions are encouraged in the form of:
- Award Competitive Papers
- Teaching Innovation Papers
- Research Abstracts for Poster Presentation
- The full-length (20 pages or less) Award Competitive Papers should report basic findings and contributions of the research endeavor. All research submissions will be evaluated on originality, clarity, research design, and theoretical and practical contribution. Accepted papers will be invited to present in a full session at the ARS and will be considered for the E. Grosvenor Plowman Award. Authors of full-length papers not accepted for presentation might be invited instead to present their research as a poster.
- Teaching Innovation Papers should also be no longer than 20 pages long. These papers might include reporting of pedagogical techniques or methods, applied teaching case studies, experiential description of the use of new tools, or other innovative teaching methods. Teaching submissions will be evaluated for originality, clarity, and value of discussion of learning outcomes and will be considered for the Innovative Supply Chain Teaching Award. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to present their research in a full session at the ARS. Authors of full-length papers not accepted for presentation might be invited instead to present their research as a poster.
- Authors who are unlikely to have findings ready to present by the conference are highly encouraged to submit their work in progress (Research or Teaching) as a Research Abstract for Poster Presentation. These Abstracts should be five pages or less in length and include at least one figure that helps to describe critical ideas behind the research in progress. Consistent with the 2023 ARS, this year’s ARS will host dedicated poster sessions during the day of the symposium. Considering the overall positive feedback about the value of last year’s poster sessions, we are expanding this part of the conference as a means to improve how we share our research and solicit feedback. There will be a greater proportion of posters vs. full paper presentations this year compared to last. Top posters will be considered for display during the CSCMP EDGE conference.
Guidelines for Submissions
- All research track submissions must not have been published or accepted for publication in any journal or other outlet. The conference committee will place all accepted research papers into appropriate research tracks according to primary topic. Papers that bridge multiple topic areas may be placed into the special cross-disciplinary presentation session.
- Submissions must be made following The Journal of Business Logistics style and formatting guidelines.
- All submissions will undergo a double-blind review. The first page of any submission should contain the manuscript's title only. All author profiles entered in the system will be hidden upon review by the committee. The title should be repeated on the second page, which in turn should be followed by the abstract, body, and visuals.
- Authors of accepted works will be asked to make appropriate changes based on reviewer comments for the conference proceedings prior to presentation and publication. Authors other than award winners will have an option to publish an abbreviated version in the proceedings.
- Each accepted paper will be asked to present at the Academic Research Symposium. Each author planning to present each accepted research paper or brief, and each teaching paper or brief, must register for the Academic Research Symposium. Authors will be notified on or around July 1, 2024 as to the final decision regarding their submission’s acceptance to the symposium.
