ADDITIONAL TRAINING TIPS

  • Work on your strength and balance. The trails are uneven, so training on sidewalks or indoor stair machines is not enough.

  • No hills to train on? No problem. Find a flight of stairs.

  • Carry your daypack with 3 liters of water in it to add weight.

  • Train in the shoes and socks that you will be wearing!

  • If you are unfamiliar with what 1000' of elevation gain means, consider this: 1,714 stairs (7” rise) equals about 1000’ of elevation gain. This would be considered a very steep hill but provides a guideline for understanding the gains and losses on your itinerary.
