In an environment of long-term care worker shortages, no home can afford to have peer incivility and bullying harm professional relationships among frontline staff. These behaviours are not only risk factors for employee turnover but can impact absenteeism and even quality of care. Discover steps your home can take for a positive and harmonious workplace by drawing on Civility Matters, an online toolkit developed to address peer incivility and bullying within long-term care in British Columbia.

Families seeking long-term care for their loved ones can initially arrive feeling apprehensive, distrustful and with sometimes unrealistic expectations. Staff meanwhile face overwhelming demands and can struggle with fatigue and burnout. Together, these stressors may produce unnecessary friction, disappointment and conflict instead of positive engagement and relationships that lead to quality resident care.
Let’s examine the barriers, challenges and concerns around family and caregiver inclusion in homes and the innovative and collaborative strategies that can overcome these obstacles. You’ll hear ideas from multiple perspectives, learn how to build confidence and competence among staff to establish trust with families, and become more aware of the profound impact of shifting mindsets and narratives that can hold trust back.
