DUNNS RIVER FALLS
Offered: Daily
Duration: 5 hours (includes transfer times) 1 hour, 30 minutes away from resort
Departure Time: 8:30 am
Return Time: Approx. 1:30 pm
Dunn's River Falls is the number one attraction in Jamaica: a world-famous waterfall near Ocho Rios, and a major Caribbean tourist attraction that attracts thousands of visitors each year. About 1,000 feet (300 m) high, the waterfalls are terraced like giant stair steps. Several small lagoons are interspersed among the vertical sections of the falls. Climbing up the waterfalls is a popular tourist activity and is often, but not exclusively, performed with the help of expert guides from the park. Dunn’s River Falls is described by geologists as "a living phenomenon" because it is continuously rebuilt from deposits of calcium carbonate and sodium from the river water and is one of the very few waterfalls in the world that actually empties directly into the sea. Dunn's River Falls was the site of a location shoot for the 1988 Tom Cruise film "Cocktail."

The Luminous Lagoon is one of Jamaica's natural wonders. This lagoon, surrounded by mangroves, is home to millions of microscopic organisms called Dinoflagellates that emit phosphorescent light when the water is agitated. Plan your trip for dusk and then take a boat ride onto the lagoon. As the water is disturbed, you'll see an eerie light illuminating the waters below. Wave your hands or drag a stick in the water to make the water glow in the dark. Those who wish can swim in the luminous waters as well. The Luminous Lagoon stretches along the marshlands of Trelawny from the small community of Rock to the town of Falmouth. In the 18th century when sugar was king, Falmouth was one of Jamaica's most pivotal ports.
