Program Details

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This conference is designed for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician associates, child-life specialists and social workers practicing in the field of pediatric and adult oncology or primary care.  It will provide a learning opportunity to the healthcare community to expand their knowledge about treating their patients and bring to surface the real topics of discussion of today’s modern challenges.


Presentations will include:

  • Obesity in Childhood Cancer
  • The Emotional Impact Cancer Has on Adolescents and Young Adults
  • Transitions in Pediatric Cancer Survivors
  • Financial and Employment Challenges for Childhood Cancer Survivors

A patient-driven discussion including a well-rounded patient panel and faculty interaction is also part of the agenda.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the challenges pediatric cancer survivors face to maintain a normal weight
  • Explain a variety of strategies to help transition as children age and develop into adulthood
  • Understand the emotional impact cancer makes on adolescent emotional development
  • Discuss obstacles childhood cancer survivors face in finances and employment
  • Understand the importance of the patients' perspectives on ways to improve the healthcare system
