Montreux, Switzerland, with its large old-world-style hotels and relaxing atmosphere, is also known as the Swiss Riviera. It is a traditional, French-speaking resort town of about 25,000 people on the eastern shore of Lake Geneva. It is surrounded by the magnificent Swiss Alps and acres of vineyards. The town's promenade is lined with flowers, sculptures, and grand Belle Époque buildings. Each year in the month of July, the Montreux Jazz Festival turns the city into heaven for Jazz lovers, while hosting famous and still unknown performers, who make all the city sound and breathe Jazz.
Day trips can be made to visit Lausanne and the Olympic History Museum; Gruyeres (a charming hilltop town surrounded by a wall and dominated by a castle) to see the dairy and cheese factory; the Chateau of Chillon on Lake Geneva (Switzerland's best-known castle, made famous by Byron in his poem Prisoner of Chillon); and Rochers-de-Naye (6,700 ft/ 2,045 m) via cogwheel train from Montreux, for a great view.
Surrounded by the soaring Alps and nestled along the shores of sparkling Lake Geneva, the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace has delighted visitors for over a century with its Belle-Époque architecture boasting 236 rooms and suites and a reputation for impeccable hospitality stretching back to its founding in 1906. It is the kind of place that will never be built again outside of Disney World or the United Arab Emirates: a grand, cavernous, block-long, art-nouveau castle punctuated by canary yellow window awnings.
The street entrance is ultramodern with a chic, sophisticated look that attracts snowbound stars and icons from the worlds of music and fashion. This was Quincy Jones' stomping grounds. A staircase rises up to the grandiose lobby, a lavish pillared room hung with four glittering chandeliers framed by soaring arches. The views of the gardens, lake and Alps help to give life to this humongous hall. Dining options are plush and delicious, and over the years the culinary team has shifted away from haute cuisine to a focus on healthier and nutritious options. The seasonal terrace is one of Switzerland's most beautiful spots to enjoy lunch or dinner.
Whether you’ve come for rest and relaxation, or to spoil yourself with live jazz and the finest of Swiss cuisine, you’ll discover it all at Fairmont Le Montreux Palace.

It is a city to explore with your senses, offering everything from quaint country markets to cosmopolitan shops and shows. A climb up to the Old City will take you to Lausanne’s superb gothic cathedral, to the ancient castle of Saint Maire, and to the university with its fine museums. The territory of the "Republic & Canton of Geneva" comprises only 110 square miles, yet, thanks to its central location, it is and always has been a crossroad of Europe. Geneva is a great international center housing the UN, the International Red Cross, the International Labor Office, and many, many more.
Among Geneva's main attractions is its beautiful Old town, where you'll want to indulge in a pleasant to stroll or linger in a sidewalk cafe‚ soaking up the past, fascinated by the charm of its narrow, winding, historic streets. Art lovers can just meander at leisure through the scores of stunning art galleries and antique hunters will be overwhelmed by the authentic treasures of Geneva's shops. Geneva, proud of its glorious past, cherishes the relics of its ancient heritage and offers you the chance to take an exciting promenade through 2000 years of history.
