  • Get to Know Your Regulator: Participants will be provided an overview on the history of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and an introduction to the NRC Commissioners and other important organizational elements, and how they can impact the regulatory environment.
  • Key Regulatory Terms: Students will be introduced to key terms used within the nuclear industry such as regulatory assurance, important to safety, risk, operability back fitting, forward fitting, safety conscious work environment.
  • Key Regulatory Documents: This segment focuses on key generic documents every licensing professional needs to know including Generic Communications, NUREGs, Inspection Manual, Enforcement Manual, and opportunities to influence.
  • What is Regulatory Affairs?: An inside look at regulatory licensing and compliance roles, integrity issues, expected communications with the regulator.
  • Fukushima Lessons Learned: A Case Study in Evolving Regulatory Climate: This discussion focuses on the events following the earthquake and tsunami at Fukushima, with emphasis on the regulatory impact.
  • Reactor Licensing: A brief overview of the regulatory process of obtaining a construction permit, operating license, new reactor licensing, license renewal, decommissioning, operator licensing and spent fuel storage.
  • NRC Inspection Process and Significance Determination Process: Introductory discussion on the purpose, important players, general steps, and a glimpse into the inspection process and a big picture discussion of NRC's process for determining the significance of an issue identified during the inspection process.
  • Design Basis/Licensing Basis: Students will learn what these terms mean and be provided with an overview of the licensing basis change processes.
  • Introduction to Reportability: Introductory discussion of the major reporting requirements, why they exist and what is the role of a licensing/compliance individual in the reporting process.
  • New Nuclear Plant Designs: Learn about the future and status of advanced reactor options.
  • Nuclear Regulatory Tools: Learn about Curtiss-wright's regulatory tools and how to use them to become more efficient in your role as a licensing professional.
