CANAL HISTORY & MIRAFLORES LOCKS

The Panama Canal, known as the 8th Wonder of the World, is a 50-mile (80 kms) ship channel that joins the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It is a key conduit for international maritime trade and one of the greatest works of engineering in history. The Miraflores Locks are one of three sets of locks, which work as water lifts, raising and lowering ships from sea level up to the Gatun Lake water level. From the observatory center, you will be able to see the action, looking at the boats going through the locks.

Enjoy a unique 45-minute film at the Canal IMAX theatre, narrated by Morgan Freeman, which presents the past, present and future of one of the most magnificent projects of all times, The Panama Canal. The tour includes a stop at an artisan market for souvenir shopping.

FORMER U.S. MILITARY BASES AT THE CANAL ZONE TOUR

Visit part of the history of Panama, the “Panama Canal Zone.”  In 1903, the Hay–Bunau-Varilla Treaty was signed between Panama and the United States. The Panama Canal Zone was created as a U.S. governed region and allowed the U.S. to build the Panama Canal. There were in total 18 U.S. military bases along the Canal, which were turned over to local authorities by 1999. On this tour, you will visit six former U.S. military bases located at the Pacific side, such as: Fort Kobbe, Fort Howard, Fort Rodman, Cocoli Rangers, Fort Clayton and Fort Albrook.

PANAMA CANAL PARTIAL TRANSIT

Board your boat and sail toward the entrance of the Panama Canal on the Pacific Ocean. This journey will take you to visit Miraflores Locks (the first set of locks on the Canal where the vessel will be raised 59 feet above sea level), Miraflores Lake, Pedro Miguel Locks (the vessel will be raised 30 feet above sea level), Centennial Bridge and the Gailard Cut (the narrowest part of the Canal). The voyage will end at Gamboa Dredging Division in the middle of the Canal where you will disembark to meet your return transportation to the hotel.

The Old Town of Panama offers a rich history and local flavors. Sample Panamanian Geisha Coffee and learn why it’s considered one of the best and most expensive coffees in the world! Next, you’ll visit the “Chocolate Lab,” and learn about chocolate production from the cocoa plant to an edible product. You’ll get to sample and also make your own chocolate bar. The final stop on this tour is the “Rum Place” where you will taste and learn about the different rums of Panama.

MUESUM AND HISTORY TOUR

On this tour you will visit two of the most iconic museums in Old Town, Panama. The Panama Canal Museum is devoted to the history of the construction of the Panama Canal in its various stages, including the first French construction attempt, the later construction by the United States, and the eventual transfer to Panamanian control. The Mola Museum or MuMo showcases the work of the Kuna (Guna) Indians. Kuna women make and wear blouses decorated with intricate, appliqued and embroidered cloth panels. The cloth panels are referred to as molas. The Mola Museum is dedicated to promoting this amazingly diverse art form.

EMBERA INDIGENOUS EXPERIENCE

A trip down the river in a traditional wooden canoe, hand-carved by Embera natives, begins a magical cultural encounter. When you arrive in the village of the Embera, you will feel as if you have gone back in time, listening to the music and watching the dances of this ancient Panamanian tribe. Before returning to civilization, the Embera will invite you to a traditional lunch of fresh fish and fried bananas and an opportunity to buy souvenirs hand-crafted by the Embera people.

ZIPLINING & GATUN LAKE EXPEDITION

Located at the Rainforest, it is a circuit of 1.4 km, 10 lines & 13 platforms. The entire circuit takes 1 hour 30 min. Weight Allowed: 175 pounds (77 kg) for woman /250 pound (114 kg) for men. Then, a boat tour will take you through the Panama Canal into secret waterways to find islands where white-faced Capuchin and Howler monkeys can be seen leaping in the trees above. Occasionally, they become curious about visitors and venture down to take a closer look. The boat ride passes through the Gatun Lake of the Panama Canal, giving you the chance to see the different vessels during their transits through the Canal.

Tucan Country Club is a 180 acre private gated community with a wooded setting located a few minutes from Panama City’s downtown. The Tucan Golf Course is a beautiful golf course bordered by lush tropical forests and masterfully designed by the most prominent experts in golf courses development around the world. The course reveals a par-72 layout that stretches 6,618 yards.

FISHING ON GATUN LAKE - PANAMA CANAL

This excursion begins at the Marina of the Gamboa Rainforest Resorts. You’ll fish for Peacock Bass, Snook and Tarpon while surrounded by rainforest and an abundance of wildlife.
