Session 1: Coping with Uncertainty: Managing Distress in Survivorship

Did you finish treatment, expecting to feel better, but notice an increase in anxiety instead? Wondering what to do next? In this session, we will discuss the fear and distress cancer patients and survivors can face.  We will examine the ways in which fear impacts the body and mind and discuss strategies to cope with uncertainty.  Dr. Amonoo will use methods from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, and Positive Psychology that people can consider in managing distress.

  • What are common stressors for patients and survivors?
  • How does your body and mind react to stress?
  • What are some tools I can use to cope?

Session 2: Cancer-Related Cognitive Impairment (CRCI): Addressing Chemobrain

What was that word again? Why does my brain feel foggy? CRCI is a long-term challenge of cancer treatment that can affect your thinking, memory, and/or attention. This “fog” can make it more challenging to complete activities that you want to do and need to do on a regular basis. We will discuss the ways in which cancer-related cognitive impairment presents in daily life, why it occurs, and strategies you can use to reduce its impact.

  • What is cancer-related cognitive impairment?
  • Why does cancer-related cognitive impairment happen?
  • What are some helpful strategies I can use to manage cancer-related cognitive impairment?

We hope you can join us for this free in-person education event!
