OVERVIEW

[italic]Clostridioides difficile[/italic] can cause a serious infection of the lower intestine, resulting in significant morbidity and sometimes death. The primary risk factor for [italic]C difficile[/italic] infection (CDI) is exposure to broad-spectrum antibiotics, which disrupt the normal composition and function of the gut microbiome. Antibiotics for CDI treatment do not kill bacterial spores, and recurrence is common. Restoring a healthy gut microbiome is therefore often critical for achieving a durable clinical response. In this live CME event, three clinician experts will review treatments for recurrent CDI that target the gut microbiome, including fecal microbiota transplantation and emerging live biopharmaceutical products. Faculty will discuss these therapies in the context of interactive patient cases; audience participation will be encouraged through a live Q&A.
