Workshop

The CFD4NRS workshop was launched to establish a forum where numerical analysts, modelers, and experimentalist can exchange information in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) safety and advanced reactor issues.

Following the CFD4NRS workshops held in Garching, Germany (September 2006), Grenoble, France (September 2008), Washington D.C. (September 2010), Daejeon, South Korea (September 2012), Zurich, Switzerland (September 2014), Boston, Massachusetts, Cambridge (September 2016), Shanghai, China – Shanghai Jiao Tong University (September 2018), and Online Forum, Saclay, France (November 2020), this workshop to be held in College Station Center for Advanced Small Modular and Microreactors (CASMR) / Texas A&M University on February 20-22, 2023, is intended to bring the international community (academic scientist, researchers, engineers, research scholars, and students) to exchange and share experiences and research results of the development, assessment, and applications of single-phase and multi-phase simulation tools acting at the small scale (namely, the CFD – Computational Fluid Dynamics) for Nuclear Reactor Safety (NRS) issues, and to include both CFD applications and the related experimental and instrumentation issues.

Open-Source computer Codes will be a topic of the Workshop. The workshop presentations will also include some applications of open-source codes.

The workshop will also present Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI), Thermal Stresses, Fluid Mixing, and Multiscale and Multiphysics Simulations. Selected papers will be published in a special issue of the Nuclear Engineering and Design (NED) journal.

Conference for Advanced Reactor Deployment

In town for the NEA workshop? Following the workshop, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is holding its Conference for Advanced Reactor Deployment (CARD). The conference will be held at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center in College Station from February 22-24, 2023.

The time is now to develop newer, smaller, easy to site and construct nuclear power plants. Attendees will learn what can be done to let this high availability source of CO2 free power help us solve our climate dilemma. This information source business to-business conference will provide the opportunity for executive leaders in the SMMR nuclear technology industries to network with utility, regulatory, and financial organizations, to exchange ideas, to share lessons learned, and to establish strategic relationships.

The program includes:

  • Modularization and Advanced Manufacturing
  • Advanced Reactor Research
  • Code Development and Harmonization
  • Digital Twins
  • Reactor Technologies
  • Regulatory Modernization
