On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 2 all conference participants will have the opportunity to participate in Behind the Scenes tours, special tours held around the city and curated by IWF Nevada. Please refer to the descriptions below – you will be able to make your tour preference during the registration process. All tours are scheduled to return to the Encore by 5:00 pm.”

 


At the Forefront of Brain Health

Participants will receive an inside look at the Lon Ruvo Center for Brain Health’s groundbreaking work as well as an illuminating tour of Frank Gehry’s architectural wonder. 

The renowned Cleveland Clinic has only four locations and one of them is located right here in Las Vegas. The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health is a unique and exciting concept in medicine: a medical center dedicated solely to pursuing more effective treatments for brain diseases and providing state-of-the-art care for patients (and their families) affected by these diseases. Housed within famed architect Frank Gehry’s magnificent building, the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health serves as a clinic and research center as well as an event space. It is home to the Lou Ruvo non-profit Keep Memory Alive., distinctly draped and wrapped with a mountainous metal-clad skin, faced in shingled panels, and punctured with a grid of windows

Bellagio Fountains

The world-renowned Fountains of Bellagio is one of the most iconic, memorable experiences in all of Las Vegas. This magnificent ballet of 1,200 dancing fountains choreographed to music and lights has made appearances on TV and in films and dazzled live audiences for more than two decades. It is also the most ambitious, complex water feature ever conceived, set on more than 8.5 acres and featuring an astounding 1,200 water-emitting devices that shoot hundreds of feet into the air, 213 speakers, and 4,700 lights on display 365 days a year. Glitz and Glamour: The Nevada State Museum Las Vegas

This curator-led tour will reveal the treasures of the museum's textiles and research library collections. Marvel at the 8,000-piece collection of costumes worn by the famous Folies Bergère showgirls. Browse maps, postcards, and casino ephemera that reveal the history and new insights on Southern Nevada’s fascinating story in a special peek inside the Cahlan Research Library.  Inside the 13,000 square-foot permanent gallery, you’ll view view paleontological discoveries, including Nevada’s state fossil the ichthyosaur, hear stories of early state residents including Native Americans, pioneers, miners, and railroaders, and learn about the Hoover Dam, the atomic era, and the rise of Las Vegas as the resort capital of the world.


Inside the Joint Emergency Training Institute

The Joint Emergency Training Institute (JETI) is a state-of-the-art center designed to prepare first responders on the federal, state, and local levels for the challenges of 21st-century policing. The tragic mass shooting at the Route 51 Harvest music festival on Oct. 1, 2017, spurred community leaders to find a better way to train multiple agencies for large-scale events. Every weekend is a big weekend in Las Vegas, which welcomes 42 million visitors each year to enjoy high-rise casinos, concerts, national sporting events, and multi-day festivals. JETI takes emergency responder preparation to a new level using state-of-the-art simulator technology, with more than 80 partner agencies training together as a team. This behind-the-scenes experience will include viewing reality-based training in action and touring the shoot house, defensive tactics mat rooms, and virtual reality training room. Mob Museum

The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, gets to the bottom of some of history’s most intriguing tales, exploring the age-old dichotomy of good guys vs. bad guys. The Mob Museum historians Geoff Schumacher and Claire White will provide a history of organized crime in the United States, from ethnic immigration and Prohibition to the national crime syndicate and the Mob’s role in the rise of Las Vegas.This immersive experience explores the ongoing power struggle between organized crime and law enforcement from the Mob’s origination to today. Rita Deanin Abbey Museum

Rita Deanin Abbey was a prominent Las Vegas artist, teacher and author who often found her artistic inspiration in nature. The Rita Deanin Abbey Museum showcases 200 selections from her lifetime of creating art in diverse media as well as an outdoor sculpture garden. This intimate tour will be led by Rita’s family and showcase works that have not been seen by the public. 

Abbey, an Emeritus Professor of Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), taught drawing, painting, and color theory along with creating interdisciplinary courses in the sciences for 22 years. Living and exploring the deserts of the Southwest for over 60 years enabled her to develop a deep relationship with the forms and forces in nature, which resonate with Abbey’s own creative impulses. Before her death in 2021, she exhibited widely, completed multiple public commissions, and authored six books.


Seven Magic Mountains

Seven Magic Mountains is a large-scale desert artwork designed by internationally renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. Join CEO of the Nevada Museum of Art, David Walker, on a tour that will provide insights into the artist and the installation. Attendees will have time to wander through the installation and take in the magic of the desert. As Walker says, “It’s not a requirement that you know a lot about art to fall in love with the piece or to be moved by it.”

Comprised of seven towers of colorful, stacked boulders standing more than 30 feet high, Seven Magic Mountains is located 10 miles south of the Las Vegas strip in the Mojave Desert. This one-of-a-kind art installation has received accolades from national and international art, travel, environmental and mainstream news media and has been called one of the most unique environmental art installations ever.

The Springs Preserve

Known as the "birthplace of Las Vegas," the Springs Preserve is a 180-acre cultural institution designed to commemorate Las Vegas' dynamic history and provide a vision for a sustainable future. Stroll through the lush grounds, interpretive trails and colorful garden on this archaeologist-led tour. Participants will also receive special access because it will be closed to the public during the tour. 

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978, the site served as the original source of water for Native Americans living in Southern Nevada thousands of years ago. In 1997, the Las Vegas Valley Water District Board of Directors approved a plan to develop a preserve to protect and manage the cultural, natural, and water resources of the site. Enjoy an exclusive experience with the four-legged members of the Wynn Las Vegas security team and meet the furry heroes that keep the guests of Wynn safe! Led by Ryan Millbern, the resort’s Senior Program Manager of K9 Operations, you will learn how the K9 team plays an integral part in the resort’s security and the extensive training that goes into the K9 detection unit. During this hands-on interactive Master Class, participants will not only be able to pet these professional K9s, but they will also have the opportunity to handle one of the highly trained animals during a fun, real-world training scenario. Ryan will also share problem-solving techniques, best practices, and even pro tips for dog training you can take home for your own canine hero.
