Awards of Excellence

Each year, PLA acknowledges excellence in our industry through its prestigious Awards of Excellence. These annual awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding initiatives and innovative efforts of 'the people behind the places' which promote good use of leisure time for a number of social, environmental and economic benefits to the community. 

Our Awards of Excellence presentation will include a keynote from  Rachael Sporn OAM, Icon of Australian Basketball and Women’s Sport, Operations Manager – AFLW at Port Adelaide Football Club.

From shooting hoops in Murrayville, to Operations Manager at Port Adelaide’s AFLW – and everything in between. Rachael Sporn OAM will share reflections on her pathways and career as an elite athlete, and visions for the future.

About Rachael Sporn OAM,

An Icon of Australian basketball, Rachael Sporn started her sporting career in Murrayville and went on to become a 5-time WNBL Champion, 2-time WNBL MVP, and three-time Olympian with two silver medals and a bronze medal.

After a decorated 19-year career in Australian basketball, including three Olympic medals, Sporn has forged a successful business career in sport with roles at Sport Integrity Australia and the Australian Olympic Committee. Rachael’s new role as Operations Manager with Port Adelaide’s AFLW program will continue her legacy for supporting and championing exciting pathways for females in sport.

Rachael is a member of the South Australian Sports Hall of Fame and the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame. She was awarded an order of Australia Medal in 2015 for her services to basketball and the community.
